What is oversized transport?
Under Article 2 of Serbia’s Public Roads Act, exceptional transport (oversized transport) is transport using a vehicle that, alone or together with its load, exceeds the regulated axle load, total mass, width, length or height — within the Public Roads Act in force since 01.01.2006.
What are the maximum permitted dimensions?
Maximum permitted length of vehicle and load:
- • 12.00 m for a truck (solo vehicle)
- • 16.50 m for an articulated vehicle (tractor + semi-trailer)
- • 18.50 m for a truck with trailer (road train)
- • Maximum permitted width of vehicle and load: 2.50 m
- • Maximum permitted height of vehicle and load: 4.00 m
What is the maximum permitted weight?
The maximum permitted total weight of a vehicle combination with load is 40 t.
What is the maximum permitted axle load?
Maximum permitted axle load:
- • 10 t on a single axle
- • 8 t per axle for multiple axles
If the distance between two adjacent axles in a multiple-axle group exceeds 2.00 m, the axles are treated as single axles.
When is technical escort mandatory?
Technical escort is mandatory for all types of oversized transport without exception, unless a special order states otherwise. Forming a convoy is not allowed, except where established by special order issued by the competent authority based on its assessment.
When is police escort required?
Police escort is mandatory when:
- • total length of vehicle and load exceeds 25.00 m
- • total width exceeds 3.50 m off highways, or up to 4.00 m on highways
- • total height exceeds 4.50 m
or when otherwise defined due to inadequate road conditions on all or part of the route, weather, etc.
When is oversized transport not permitted?
Oversized transport is carried out exclusively in daylight and good visibility, unless the competent authority issues special approval with clearly stated reasons and conditions.
On weekends it is prohibited:
- • Friday 12:00 to Saturday 06:00
- • Sunday 12:00 to Monday 06:00
On public holidays it is prohibited:
- • the day before the holiday from 12:00 to 06:00 of the first holiday
- • from 12:00 of the last holiday to 06:00 of the first working day
When is an expert opinion required?
An expert opinion from the „Institute for Roads” and the „Institute for Bridges” is required:
- • on regional roads — for loads above 80 t
- • on main roads and motorways — for loads above 100 t
An expert opinion from the „Institute for Roads” is also required for loads wider than 5 m, as well as when the competent authority deems road conditions require additional analysis (weather conditions, road incidents, etc.).
